                   Smt. T.K.R. Polytechnic is established in the year 1987-88 by The Hindu and High Branch School Society. The Society started under the designation of the Hindu Anglo and Vernacular School in 1856, a name which retained for many years. With the passage of time, the school gradually developed and the Society changed its name as The Hindu and High Branch Society by which name it was registered in the year 1896 with the aims and objectives of promoting educational and cultural activities. As the years passed, the society established The Hindu College in the year 1928, by starting Intermediate courses with the addition of degree courses in Arts and Sciences in 1930s and the Post Graduation courses in Arts and Sciences in 1970s and later years.  Under the management of The Hindu College, a management separate course(MBA) was established in 1985-86 for which the AICTE gave permission. All these institutions at the degree and PG levels, management course, DSR Hindu College of Law started in 1983 and M.Sc., Physics Course started recently have been successfully run under the able stewardship of the management of the Society. Under this society D.M.S.S.V.H. College of Engineering has been running B.Tech. & M.Tech. Courses in a big and separate campus of 43 acres on the beach road of Machilipatnam successfully since 1980-81 with the permission of AICTE and affiliation of Krishna University. Smt. T.K.R. Polytechnic for women was started under the society from the year 1987-88 in a view to promote technical education to rural women. The Polytechnic was started in the year with Diploma in Computer Engineering. The course Diploma in Electronics & Communication Engineering was started from the year   1988-89. AICTE approval was accorded in the year 1994-95. The course Diploma in Electronics Instrumentation Engineering was started in the year 1995-96. The course Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering was started in the year 2002-03. The polytechnic was converted into co-education polytechnic from the year 2002-03. Now the polytechnic is running with three courses            1) Diploma in Computer Engineering, 2) Diploma in Electronics & Communication Engineering, and 3) Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering.
